Yet another actor from the Fantastic Four films is interested in crossing over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to become one of its villains.
Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan both portrayed iconic Marvel hero Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch in each of their mediocre live action adaptations. Now Evans is finishing his tenure as Captain America and Jordan was the main bad guy in the blockbuster juggernaut Black Panther, who played one of the best evildoers in the cinematic universe. Now the man who fought beside Chris Evans in Fantastic Four possibly wants to take him on in a Marvel film.
Ioan Gruffudd, who played Reed Richards aka the stretchy Mr. Fantastic in 2005, and 2007 Fantastic Four films claims he would be a prime choice to do bad things in the MCU. The actor does have experience outside of playing the good guy. His roles in the UK thriller Lie and the Australian drama Harrow show Gruffudd can successfully navigate the dark side of acting. He recently sat down with Digitalspy and explained his desire to join the outlaws of the MCU in more detail.
“I would love that… I just don’t know, in that universe, the Marvel world, would they let me play something else?… I’m sure for Marvel it was a tough decision to pick Chris to play that part [Captain America] because he’d already played one superhero, but what a brilliant decision it was, because he’s wonderful. And Michael B Jordan has played Johnny Storm and he’s amazing in Black Panther as well, so there are precedents set. So we’ll see. Maybe [I could play] a baddie, this time? Now that I’ve established myself as somebody who can do that, that would be great.”
Gruffudd sounds more than willing to go bad guy for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far everyone who has made the transition from the depths of the Fantastic Four franchise has made it successfully. Now that Gruffudd has all that Reed Richards out of him with his latest gigs, he seems poised to make an impact if Marvel ever calls upon him to do so. There certainly is a lot of room in the MCU now after the events of Infinity War, so here’s hoping Gruffudd gets a shot at Marvel redemption sooner than later.
