Warner Bros. and DC’s Aquaman arrives in theaters this holiday season and while the film marks the titular hero’s third appearance in the DC Extended Universe, director James Wan and executive producer Peter Safran told Entertainment Weekly that King of Atlantis’ first standalone film will still have plenty to offer that audiences have not seen before.
Last year audiences were given their first glimpse at Aquaman’s homeworld of Atlantis in Justice League, though it was a relatively brief sequence that was set in a single room. However, James Wan discussed how his vision of the underworld will be unlike anything that was seen in other DC films:
“The water world my movie takes place in is so separate and so far apart from previous DC movies it’s like I’m making my own sci-fi fantasy film. This is a whole new underwater world nobody has seen before in live action.”
Executive Producer Peter Safran added that the film gave Jason Momoa a chance to show his humorous side as Arthur Curry:
“Rarely has a superhero character been married to the real-life actor as much as Aquaman and Jason Momoa. He’s authentically from two worlds, he’s this real physical specimen, he’s got this humor which he’s never been allowed to play before — in every regard he is Aquaman.”

Plot details for Aquaman are currently under wraps, though the film centers on the King of Atlantis and will dive much deeper into the character’s past as it explores the discovery of his powers and his reluctance to accept his role as King.
Directed by James Wan and written by Will Beall, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.
Aquaman is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on December 21, 2018.

10 DC Comics Heroes That Should Be In The Next ‘Justice League’ Movie
The Justice League is DC’s premiere superhero team. These characters are the biggest names in the DC Comics universe. Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie introduced six members to audiences in the form of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash.
Despite the first Justice League film underperforming, there appears to be a sequel in some form of active development over at Warner Brothers. Based on the first film’s post-post scene, the team could be facing off against the Legion of Doom, so it appears the Justice League may need some extra assistance. Luckily there is a wide array of DC characters from the comics to pull from to strengthen the team’s roster.
Here are ten DC Comics heroes we would like to see in the Justice League sequel. Click Next to get started!
