Paul Feig Doesn’t Think SPY 2 Is Gonna Happen — GeekTyrant

Spy is Melissa McCarthy’s funniest film to date. The film went light on the fat jokes, and instead focused on the comedic chops of McCarthy while Jason Statham played the straight man. It was great, but apparently, not great enough to warrant a sequel according to director Paul Feig (via Slashfilm):

They’re on the third Kingsman movie, I love the Kingsman movies, that’s the same studio. They made more money than we did, but we didn’t not make money. We made pretty good money. We made $235 million worldwide, that’s pretty good on a $65 million budget—you always wish it was higher. But yeah, they just didn’t wanna do it, and now the moment may be passed, I don’t know. But I’m really proud of it.

That’s a shame. I’m not exactly sure why Feig name dropped Kingsman in on that, unless he was mentioning it to say the studio already has a spy film they’re committed to that was much more successful.

I agree that it’s probably unlikely the film will return with so much time having passed since the original, but if there was a chance a sequel isn’t dead, would you like to see it?
